The Red Cross provides help in accidents, alleviates loneliness, takes care of the vulnerable and supports immigrants with integration activities.

We maintain our crisis preparedness by training and supporting volunteers all over Finland.

General donations to activities in Finland are used for the work where funds are needed the most. You can make a targeted donation if you wish to direct your support to Youth Shelters or friend activities.

Youth Shelters

Youth Shelters provide help to young people and their loved ones in all kinds of difficult situations and crises in Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa, Turku and Tampere, as well as online throughout the country.

Youth Shelters help around the clock, every day of the year, and can offer a young person a safe place to spend the night if necessary. A young person or their family can come to the shelter without a referral or appointment. The services are free of charge.

Friend visitor activities

Loneliness is destructive to human well-being. Up to one in five Finns feels lonely. Loneliness can feel like invisibility and emptiness or manifest as physical pain.

Each of us needs the company of another person, and even a single positive relationship can stop the cycle of loneliness.

The Red Cross alleviates loneliness by providing friends to those who are looking for the company of another person. The friends get together and spend time in a manner that suits them, such as having coffee or exercising outside.

Donations targeted to friend activities are used for purposes such as friend activity coordination and volunteer training.

Donations to the Finnish Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund help victims of natural disasters and conflicts around the world and people facing sudden accidents in Finland.

Thanks to donations, aid can be provided quickly and efficiently to dozens of countries each year.

In an emergency, we can supply crisis areas with aid workers and aid equipment, such as tents, blankets, clean drinking water or an entire field hospital.

After providing emergency aid, the Red Cross will help with the rebuilding and teach locals how to act in a disaster situation. The Disaster Relief Fund also helps us support development cooperation programmes and continuously fight illness and hunger together with local volunteers.

Donations of goods or clothing support the aid work of the Red Cross.

You can organise a collection of goods or clothing at your company and agree on the retrieval of products with the Red Cross Kontti department stores.

See the contact information for Kontti stores

Two thirds of Kontti’s profit is directed to aid operations in Finland and one third to the Disaster Relief Fund providing aid in sudden crises and accidents in Finland and around the world. Some of the donated clothing are sent to crisis areas.

The Kilometrikisa challenge is a free cycling competition open for everyone encouraging people to cycle in their everyday lives. The summer challenge runs from the beginning of May to the end of September, and winter cyclists collect kilometres during January and February.

Groups of both colleagues and friends can join the Finnish Red Cross Ketjureaktio collection when taking part in the challenge.

For every 25 kilometres cycled, your company or team donates one euro. At the same time, carbon dioxide emissions are reduced by about 4 kg.

The more you cycle, the more your physical condition improves and you support the international aid work of the Red Cross. Donations help people prepare for and adapt to the impacts of climate change.

Go to the Kilometrikisa website and sign up your team (in Finnish)

VeriRyhmä means a group of people who regularly donate blood. Anyone can establish such a group consisting e.g. of colleagues, leisure group members or friends. For example, five donors can help up to 15 patients at a time. In the group, both help and the joy of helping multiply!

Does your workplace allow you to donate blood during working hours? The Blood Service’s workplace certificate is a concrete way of helping patients and demonstrating social responsibility.

By allowing employees to donate blood during working hours, workplaces are issued with an electronic certificate e.g. to display on their website.

The workplace certificate means that both companies and their employees are able to get involved in helping patients.
