Information on Online Activities and Data Protection

Data Protection in One-on-One Chat:

  • Your IP address is visible to the chat operator, but they will not see any other personal details or contact information unless you choose to share them.
  • IP addresses and messages sent in the chat are deleted within one month from both our system and the service provider's (Ninchat) system.
  • IP address information may only be shared with authorities in emergency situations where life or health is at risk.
  • The chat connection is encrypted, and data is stored within the EU.

Data Protection in Group Chats:

  • Group chats on the Finnish Red Cross website are anonymous and designed so that no information that could identify you is stored by the service provider (Ninchat) or the service operator, the Finnish Red Cross.
  • Personal or sensitive information may be recorded in electronic systems if you choose to share such details in the group chat. Any personal information will be deleted as soon as possible and will not be used without consent.
  • Data from group chat conversations is stored within the EU.
  • Messages sent in closed group chats (for ex. Talking About Loneliness groups) are deleted within one month from both our system and the service provider's (Ninchat) electronic systems.
  • Messages in public group chats (e.g., Online Meeting Place) remain on the channel indefinitely and can be accessed by volunteers and employees involved in the activity.
