Eero Rämö appointed Secretary General of the Finnish Red Cross

The Board of the Finnish Red Cross has appointed Eero Rämö, Master of Laws and Master of Theology, as Secretary General of the Finnish Red Cross. Rämö will take up his duties in the autumn when the current Secretary General Kristiina Kumpula retires.

Eero Rämö is currently Deputy CEO of the communications firm Tekir.

“The mission of the Red Cross is to alleviate suffering and protect life and human dignity in all circumstances. At a time like this, I can think of no more important task than to work towards these goals as part of the world’s largest humanitarian movement. I have always been impressed by the volunteers and employees of the Red Cross who stand up for humanity and help people every day,” Eero Rämö says.

The Secretary General of the Finnish Red Cross was sought through an open call for applications. The Finnish Red Cross received 72 applications for the position.

“The selection of Eero Rämö as Secretary General was based on his ability to reform, his change management skills, his leadership approach based on the principles of our bilingual organisation, his strong knowledge of preparedness and his international expertise,” says Elli Aaltonen, President of the Board of the Finnish Red Cross.

The Finnish Red Cross appoints the Secretary General for a term of seven years at a time. Eero Rämö will take up the duties of Secretary General on 1 October 2023.
