The significant organizational activity and aid work of the Finnish Red Cross has amassed a sizable archive.

The archive material is either stored in the National Archives of Finland or by the association. The material is primarily in analogue format.

  • Archives from 1877–1958 and the minutes of the FRC Board meetings up to 2004 are kept in the National Archives of Finland. The materials can be browsed and ordered by using the Astia online service of the National Archives of Finland. You can browse the archives of the entire association here.

  • The material stored in the National Archives of Finland also contains some material on individual districts and branches, but this information is not exhaustive. If you are unable to find district and branch material in Astia, you can request it from the district office for the district in question.

  • Photographs and the archive of the central administration of the Finnish Red Cross dating back to the late 1950s are stored at the headquarters for the time being. You can inquire after these materials directly from the headquarters at info@redcross.fi.

  • Some of the old photographs can be found in the Finnish Red Cross media bank which anyone can register for.

Examining the Finnish Red Cross material in the National Archives of Finland usually requires access rights. These discretionary access rights are issued by the Finnish Red Cross headquarters.

Please contact the information specialist at the headquarters if you need access rights or you have any questions concerning the archive.
